Ivy
Mustang Mare
Ivy’s arrival at the sanctuary is a story of profound growth, not just for a horse, but for the humans who love her. Labeled by some as "dangerous" and "reactive," Ivy is a testament to the fact that there are no "bad" horses, only those who have been deeply misunderstood.
Before she found her way to us, Ivy endured more than any soul should have to bear. Now in her 20s, Ivy’s past includes a harrowing rescue from a locked trailer where she was found starving. The toll on her body was so great that she was unable to nurse her foal, and she suffered the devastating loss of her baby.
When we first saw videos of Ivy, she was being handled with outdated, forceful training methods. She wasn't "difficult", she was a grieving mother, a survivor of starvation, and a mustang whose spirit was overwhelmed by a world that didn't feel safe.
Ivy came to us as an owner surrender, born from a place of immense courage. Her previous owner recognized that they were struggling with their own mental health and made the selfless choice to put Ivy’s needs first.
At the sanctuary, we aren't trying to "fix" Ivy or "train" the wild out of her. We are giving her the one thing she has always deserved: the freedom to just be.
Ivy is no longer a "project" or a "label." She is a senior mare with a lifetime of wisdom and a heart that is finally allowed to rest. Her days of fighting to be heard are over. Here, we listen to her silence, honor her space, and celebrate her authenticity.
Ivy currently has no monthly sponsors.
