Rowan is a striking dark bay mare and a steadfast member of Stark’s family band. With her calm presence and quiet strength, she provides a grounding influence for the herd, always attentive to her bandmates and their needs.

Like the others, Rowan came from a heartbreaking situation. After being part of an internet “rescue” from a kill lot, she and her family were labeled “safe” but then passed from hand to hand and ultimately abandoned at a quarantine facility where they were not being fed. Severely emaciated and malnourished, Rowan survived only through resilience and the support of her herd.

For months, we ensured the family was fed and monitored while seeking safe placement options. When none were available, they made the journey to our South location, where Rowan now has a permanent home and can finally live free from fear and uncertainty.

Rowan is observant and deliberate, choosing her interactions carefully while staying close to those she trusts. As she settles in, we are beginning to see her curiosity emerge and the first signs of comfort in a life no longer defined by survival.

Now safe and cared for, Rowan has the time, space, and security to heal and thrive alongside her family band. .
